Veterans’ Gateway advisors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and many are veterans themselves. They can assess your case at the first point of contact, ensuring you are quickly referred to the organisation best placed to support you.

Veterans Housing Scotland

‘Veterans Housing Scotland has over 100 years’ experience in providing homes for Veterans in Scotland who are disabled.

As we celebrate our 110th Anniversary in 2025, we complete a five-year strategy of significant but organised change. The charity now starts the next five-year phase of its strategy that will see huge investment into property refurbishments. We are incredibly proud of our history and the service we have provided to those who have served their country.  We are equally excited about our future and how we as a charity will continue to work with and support members of the Veterans Housing Scotland family.’

SSAFA

Who we help

Our support covers both regulars and reserves in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army and the Royal Air Force and their families, including anyone who has completed National Service. We know and understand the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or overseas, and in times of need, we help to enable the Forces family to thrive.

Our recent research shows that service leavers aged 25-64 need more specialised support. The challenges they face are complex – from low income to life-changing injuries or hidden wounds, like depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Armed with this information, we are improving our services for younger, working-age veterans, and we will make sure they know we’re here when they need us.

How we help

SSAFA helps the armed forces community in a number of ways, though our focus is on providing direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care.

Addiction, relationship breakdown, debt, homelessness, post-traumatic stress, depression and disability are all issues that can affect our members of our Armed Forces community. Many of these problems only become apparent when an individual has to leave their life in the Forces and join ‘Civvy Street’. SSAFA is committed to helping our brave men and women overcome these problems, and rebuild their lives.

Legion Scotland

Since 1921 we have stood for and provided support to veterans and their families.

When servicemen and women return to civilian life after serving with the Armed Forces some are in need of community and friendship, maybe as a result of their experiences in the services or purely because they are no longer part of the ‘military family’ they had come to rely. We make a difference every day to the lives of those veterans through our comradeship and befriending programme, developing strong communities and supporting remembrance.

Our large family network is spread across Scotland and helps support veterans and their families to get on with their lives and assists those who require assistance.

Combat Stress

Here to help 24/7

We provide clinical treatment and support for veterans from the British Armed Forces, focusing on those with complex mental health issues resulting from their experiences during military service. When some military personnel leave service, their experiences can’t easily be left behind. Without treatment, psychological trauma can eventually tear lives apart.

We believe military trauma shouldn’t destroy the lives of veterans and their families. For over a century, we’ve helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.

Combat Stress is the UK’s leading veterans’ mental health charity, the work we do is life-changing and often life-saving. No one else does what we do. We provide the only intensive mental health treatment service to UK veterans. Our services are provided across the UK, in-person and online. At a time that can be isolating and daunting, we’re here to help.
